This is a well made rifle and the first of its type that Colt manufactured. This particular rifle was manufactured in 1889 and features a dovetailed blade front and fixed rear sights. The top of the barrel is stamped with the two line address and five patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "22 Cal" on the left side at the breech. The serial number is marked on the lower tang. The frame and trigger guard are casehardened and the remaining metal surfaces are blue. Mounted with a checkered forearm and smooth straight grip stock with a black checkered Colt buttplate. Approximately. 89,900 manufactured between 1897 and 1904. The consignors notes state that this rifle was found in an abandoned bank vault in Oklahoma.

Refinished with 97% blue remaining and freckled flaking that is beginning to pit. The frame and trigger guard retain virtually all of the case colors. There are a few areas of minor pitting that have been finished over on the barrel and frame. The wood is refurbished with a minor repair on the buttplate toe and overall a few minor dents and handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is very good
