Early Ames Model 1840 Dragoon sword. The right ricasso is marked "US / RC". The left ricasso is marked "AMES MFG. CO. / CABOTVILLE / 1847". The brass hilt has an un-polished age patina. The pommel cap is marked with the inspector's marks "R.S." and "J.W.R.". Leather grip has four strands of the original wire wrap. The blade has most of the original polish with scattered rust and age discoloration. There are several nicks in the edge of the blade.

The regular steel scabbard is in good condition with a dark age patina color on the brass.
