This early production Second Model Army revolver was manufactured between 1876 and 1880 and features factory engraving of leaf, zigzag and dot patterns on the barrel, cylinder flats and frame. The left rear of the frame also is engraved with the Mexican eagle/snake and the right side a perched bird. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address and patent date marking and the left side is marked with the Hopkins & Allen address (faint). The serial number is marked on the butt and the rear cylinder face is marked "151". Blade front and frame notch rear sights and square butt frame fitted with smooth ivory grips and a lanyard ring.

Rating Definition:

Good. The original blued metal surfaces now have a satin gray patina with scattered minor pitting. The metal shows wear however the engraving is still crisp. The grips are fair with a moderate splinter missing from the left front panel. There is a minor crack in the right panel. Overall minor, hairline age cracks and a deep mellow patina. The markings are faint in places and readable in others. The action needs work; the cylinder does not cycle with the hammer is cocked. A nice honest gun with old west character. Purchased from John Beckwith in Encinitas, CA. 1981, from the Will Hoffeld collection.
