Description:

Approximately 25,000 Model 1875's were manufactured between 1875 and 1889. The Model 1875 was Remington's attempt to compete with the Colt Single Action Army revolver, but Remington lacked the advantage of Colt's early start in government sales. Marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A" on top of the barrel. The serial number is marked on the left side of the grip frame under the grip. Pinched blade front sight screwed into barrel and notch rear sight. The barrel has been shortened to its present length (it is not an original 5 3/4 inch barrel), all nickel finish and fitted with smooth ivory grips. The revolver is without the usual lanyard ring on the butt and appears to have never had one.

Rating Definition:

Near fine with approximately 60-70% original nickel finish remaining with overall scattered flaking. There is pitting on the edges of the underside of the ejector housing and along the ejector rod and a small area on the right side of the muzzle, all have been finished over. The barrel shows some minor dings. There is some minor pitting along the front edge of the cylinder. The grips are good. The panels have some shrinkage, minor aged cracks and a nice mellow aged patina. The barrel address is clear. The action is fine.
