Description:

Approximately 25,000 Model 1875's were manufactured between 1875 and 1889. The Model 1875 was Remington's attempt to compete with the Colt Single Action Army revolver, but Remington lacked the advantage of Colt's early start in government sales. Marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A" on top of the barrel. Pinch blade front sight screwed into barrel and notch rear sight. Casehardened hammer. Smooth walnut pistol grips marked "44" near the bottom of the left grip just above the lanyard ring. The serial number is marked on the rear face of the cylinder, the left side of the butt under the grips, and on the back of each grip. The loading gate number is 134, which does not correspond.

Rating Definition:

Fine with approximately 30% of the original blue remaining on the barrel and the balance is a smooth mottled blue/gray patina. The frame and cylinder both retain about 40% original thinning blue mostly in protected areas, the balance is now an even gray patina with some light spotting and minor surface scratches. The hammer still shows faint original casehardening colors. The address is crisp, all edges are sharp. The grips are very good with a few scratches and pressure dents. A scarce revolver in blue finish and an above average example of a significant and desirable Remington.
