Manufactured from 1881 to 1913, this revolver was also known as the "D.A. Frontier" or "The New Model Navy". It is a top break revolver which automatically ejects spent cartridges when opened. Built on a modified Model 3 frame and features a pinned blade front sight, all nickel finish with blue trigger guard and casehardened trigger and hammer and is fitted with two piece checkered grips with S&W monograms at the tops and marked "PAT'D JAN. 29, 78" on the bottom left panel. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates and the matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear of the cylinder and on the barrel. The latch is marked "558". Complete with the correct hinge lid box with orange end label marked "SMITH & WESSON / DOUBLE 44 ACTION / NICKEL. 6 1/2 INCH". The inside of the lid has the directions label.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains approximately 95% of the original finish with some minor flaking on the butt, muzzle and cylinder, minor "frosting" on the grip straps, tiny areas of light spotting on the barrel and overall scattered light scratches. The trigger guard retains approximately 90% original blue with scattered minor flaking. The trigger retains approximately 50% original bright case colors with the face a smooth gray and the hammer retains 98% bright case colors. The grips are good having faded to brown with minor dings and handling marks and crisp checkering. The box is good with a torn corner on the lid, some moderate corner wear and fraying and a little water damage on the lid. The labels remain solid with some minor flaking on the end label.
