One of approximately 280 revolvers purchased by the Australian government for military and police use. 250 of these revolvers were manufactured with the 7 inch barrel. All of the revolvers in this contract were nickel plated, fell in the 12,000 to 13,000 serial number range, had detachable shoulder stocks, and were chambered for the .44 S&W Russian cartridge. This revolver is marked with the Australian Colonial Police Broad Arrow on the butt above the serial number. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the standard two line address/patent dates and the matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear cylinder face, barrel release latch and rear of the top strap. Complete with the original detachable stock numbered to the gun and correctly marked with the Australian Broad Arrow on the lower tang. Nickel plated attaching iron and black checkered S&W hard rubber buttplate. Also there is the correct Broad Arrow marked brown leather two flap holster, iron rings and the original brown leather holster for the stock. These revolvers are scarce in their own right, but it is very seldom that all four pieces are found together with matching numbered stock.

Excellent. The revolver retains approximately 95% original finish with scattered minor flaking, some thinning, light scratches and small areas of "frosted" finish. The grips are excellent with sun fading on the left panel, a few minor dings and handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. The stock is excellent with 98% finish on the hardware which shows some minor flaking and "blistering", the wood is very good with numerous tiny scratches on each side and overall minor handling marks. The buttplate is excellent with a couple minor dings, and sharp checkering. The holsters are very good showing little wear, some light stains and two moderate cuts on the stock holster, minor scuffs and tight stitching. An excellent original example of an Australian contract Smith & Wesson New Model Number 3 revolver with the matching stock and extremely hard to find holsters. Quite an extraordinary outfit!
