Description:

Made in 1897 and shipped to Simmons Hardware on September 3 of that year, as part of a shipment of 20. Blade front sight on barrel with standard two line Colt address and caliber marking. Two line, three date patent markings on the frame next to the circled Rampant Colt. Checkered hard rubber grips with Rampant Colt logos at the top and shield bearing eagle on the bottom, with "L.L." marked on the left butt, and "L.C.L." on the right butt. The documents included are copies of original documents prepared by the ATF and Colt Manufacturing Company. The ATF, Colt Historical Research Department, and Colt Firearms Control Staff researched each firearm. This was part of an ATF investigation to ensure that each of the firearms were in fact original and not forgeries or renumbered in any way. The facts on the research information sheets are directly from the Colt records and Colt Historical Research Department.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with approximately 20% of the original finish remaining. Most of the surface shows a mottled gray patina, along with some light handling marks and spotting. The frame has some remnants of the original casehardened pattern. The earlier production grips are heavily worn, with wear on the checkering and logos, and a large chip glued in place on the left side. The action is excellent.
