Description:

Factory engraved Colt Single Action Army Revolver manufactured in 1929. The revolver is decorated with Colt Grade A scroll engraving executed by master engraver Wilbur A. Glahn. The understated and superbly executed scroll work is present on the barrel, ejector housing, frame, cylinder chambers, trigger guard and backstrap. The revolver has the Colt post-war blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and backstrap. The frame and hammer are case-hardened with vivid colors. The revolver is fitted with two-piece, factory, ivory grips with correct inlaid German silver Colt Medallions. The top of the barrel has the one-line address: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." The left side of the revolver barrel is marked with the caliber "45 Colt". The left side of the frame has the Colt "three date in two line" patent dates. The Rampant Colt trademark is located behind the patent markings. The assembly mark "A'' and the Colt "VP/Triangle" proof mark are stamped on the left front trigger guard bow. The serial number "353017" is stamped on the underside of the frame. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "1044".

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains approximately 98% plus of the original blue and casehardened finish. The barrel has nearly all of the original blue with only some very minor scattered edge wear. The cylinder has some very minor wear on the forward edge. 99% plus of the blue finish is present on the trigger guard and front grip strap. The blue finish on the backstrap is beginning to thin slightly. At least 98% of the brilliant casehardened finish is present on the frame, hammer and loading gate. The case colors are deep and vivid. The trigger and frame screws have most of the brilliant niter blue finish and remain in excellent condition. The two-piece ivory grips have aged to a nice mellow patina and remain in excellent condition. This is a magnificent example of a post WWI Colt Single Action Army Revolver with factory ivory grips and flawlessly executed Colt Grade A engraving by master engraver Wilbur A. Glahn. Writer has seen few of these "A" engraved prewar Colt SAA revolvers.
