Winchester Model 1886 Sporting Rifle manufactured in 1911. The rifle has a round barrel, full-length magazine and crescent steel butt plate. The barrel is fitted with a Lyman "Hunting" front sight with ivory insert and a sporting style rear sight. The barrel and receiver are blued and the hammer, loading lever and buttplate have a casehardened finish. The walnut stock and forearm have a varnished finish. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PAT.OCT.14.1884.JAN. 20.1885." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. "-NICKEL STEEL BARREL- / ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" is stamped on the left side of the barrel below the rear sight followed by the caliber designation "33 W.C.F.". The oval, Winchester "W/P" proof mark is stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1886/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S. PAT.OFF." in three lines. The serial number, "152321A" is stamped on the lower receiver tang.

Fine as partially refinished (receiver). The rifle retains approximately 60% of the original blue finish. Metal surfaces are smooth and the markings on the left side of the barrel are sharp. The bolt has most of the original blue and traces of blue finish remain on the loading gate. The blue on the refinished receiver has since faded to an attractive gray-brown patina. Traces of the blue finish remain in protected areas. The surface of the receiver are smooth and free from scratches or pitting. The hammer, loading lever and buttplate have a silver-gray patina. Traces of the original case colors are visible in protected areas of the hammer and loading lever. The stock and forearm are in very good overall condition with scattered light handling marks. The stock retains about half of the original varnish with some scattered flaking. Most of the varnish is worn off of the forearm but the forearm shows only light handling wear. This is a solid, original example of a Winchester Model 1886 Sporting Rifle.
