Description:

The top of the barrel is marked "E. FLINT" followed by "1867 (an image of a hammer) 8". The right flat at the breech is stamped "REMINGTON" and features a turned muzzle for a bullet starter, with a globe and pin front sight and an adjustable bar peep sight, there is no provision for a ramrod. The stock has an iron scroll target type trigger guard, toe plate, side plates, cap box and crescent buttplate with a nickel silver inlay of a squirrel on the left buttstock. The consignor believes that this rifle was produced by D.H. Hilliard and has found reference to a Captain E.A. Flint as serving with a Massachusetts cavalry unit who had an outstanding record in U.S. Civil War.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and mounts are "in the white", with the barrel is turning slightly brown and the corners on the flats are still sharp. The rest of the iron mounts show a little more smooth patina. The otherwise good stock has been lightly cleaned and oiled. Mechanically fine.
