A) Joe Race Contemporary Under Hammer Heavy Bench Percussion Target Rifle

Description:

The barrel is marked on the left flat "JOE RACE" and "1962" on the upper right flat with an windage adjustable globe and post front sight, scope blocks and a peep sight fixed to the custom made receiver. The trigger guard serves as both the main spring and the trigger return spring. The shotgun style stock has a serrated plastic shotgun style buttplate. The gun weighs 24 pounds.

Rating Definition:

Very good as custom made. The barrel was finished bright and has subsequently turned a light mottled brown. The action is an applied brown finish with the stock retaining most of it's oil finish. The action is fine.

Description:

The barrel is marked "R.P. HUSE / MANCHESTER / N.H.", the muzzle has been turned for a bullet starter and has a silver blade front sight and a simple "V" notched rear. There are several filled holes from previous sights. The original ramrod with it's concealed ball puller, is held by three steel pipes that are soldered to the bottom of the barrel. The stock is mounted with a brass trigger guard, toe plate and crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Refinished overall. The barrel has been hot browned and has a translucent splotchy appearance with high edge wear. The stock is very good as revarnished. The action is good.
