The octagon to round Spanish barrel is inlayed with gold in the form of a cross and several flowers with barrel manufacturers proof marks. The transition from octagon to round is turned with bands and chiseled in high relief with a floral border and has no sights. The miquelet lock has a serrated frizzen and a lightly engraved cock foot with all lock parts mounted externally as is normal for these. The brass stirrup grip buttcap is attached with small nails and is profusely engraved with floral designs with an oval pewter bust inlayed into the bottom. The brass trigger guard bow and acanthus leaf forward finial are both engraved with floral scrolls. There are two elaborate nailed on brass overlays that are floral shaped and engraved, surrounding the barrel tang and extending all the way to the stirrup buttcap with an oval pewter bust inlayed in the middle in suit with the buttcap. There is another nailed on brass floral engraved overlay where the ramrod enters the lower forearm. The side plate consists of an iron strap that holds the two lock screws overlaid by a nailed on brass overlay engraved with floral scrolls and a stand of flags. There is one brass ramrod pipe with two grooves at either end and the forearm terminates with a brass band decorated by two engraved grooves. The stock is carved in relief around the lock panels and also has a carved relief step along the upper barrel channel and along the ramrod groove, the hickory ram rod terminating with a horn tip.

Good. The barrel and lock show smooth patina as does the brass. One of the stirrup straps of the buttcap is missing a one inch piece on the left side. There is some wood loss at two places around the lock, a small chip out at the bottom and another chip out at the front of the lock along the barrel. There is also some small wood loss on the left side of the ram rod pipe. The stock has been broken through at the wrist and has been repaired. The lock functions.
