Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 22
Class: Antique
Description:

Manufactured from 1857 into early 1860s with a quantity estimated at 500. Specimens are seldom seen. 5-shot cylinder bearing a rolled engraved forest scene including deer and dog. Once blue with casehardened cylinder, hammer and trigger. The left barrel flat is marked with the two line barrel address/patent date (1845) and the patent date is again marked on the left side of the hammer. Matching serial number on the barrel, cylinder, hammer spring, frame and both grips.

Rating Definition:

Good. The revolver frame has been cleaned bright with heavy amounts of a protective coating strongest on the barrel. The cylinder has a smooth dark patina. Nearly all of the cylinder engraving remains with traces of bright blue. Barrel markings are light. There are some moderate gouges on the bottom of the left grip and a large dent on the right grip, otherwise the grips are very good with some minor dings and scratches and a few chips. Much of the varnish remains.

Class: Antique
Description:

Top of barrel is marked "NATIONAL ARMS Co. BROOKLYN, N.Y.". The cylinder is absent of the usual patent marking. Late variation with hooked extractor mounted on the right side of the frame, (approximately 7,000 produced). Blue barrel and cylinder and silver finished brass frame, scroll engraving with dot background on the frame, spur trigger and smooth grips on a bird's head butt. Fires the 32 caliber teat-fire, a special cartridge designed by Daniel Moore and David Williamson.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain approximately 50% original finish mixed with smooth brown patina. There are several minor dings along the right side of the barrel. The frame retains approximately 20% original silver plating mostly in protected areas and the balance on the left side. The grips are very good with wear on the high edges and some minor handling marks. The barrel marking is clear. The action is fine.
