A) Allen & Thurber Double Action Bar Hammer Single Shot Pistol

Description:

The upper right barrel flat is marked "PATENTED", upper left "1837", the left flat "CAST_STEEL" and "385" on the lower left. "ALLENS PATENT" is marked on the left side of the hammer. Screw off barrel and standard broad scroll engraved frame.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a dark gray patina with a few very small areas of minor spotting and flash pitting on and around the hammer. Tool marks on left side plate screw. The grips are very good retaining most of the varnish with some wear on the high area and a few minor dings and dents. The action is very good.

Description:

The only visible markings are the batch number, "31" on the lower left barrel flat and "ALLENS PATENT" on the left side of the hammer. Screw off barrel and broad scroll engraved frame.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel shows signs of some cleaning and minor dings. Smooth mottled gray patina overall. The grips are a bit ill-fitting and remain good with a hand rubbed finish and a few minor dings on the right panel. The action needs work.

Description:

No visible markings. All iron parts with removable side plates, brass post front sight, single trigger, and smooth walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth dark gray patina with minor flash pitting on top of the barrels. The right side plate is a bit ill-fitting. The grips are good with most of the original varnish remaining, a moderate pressure dent on the left panel below the screw and overall a few scattered minor dings, dents and nicks. The right hammer spring is weak, otherwise the mechanics are good.
