Description:

Measuring 12 inches in length, 4 1/2 inches in height and 2 3/5 inch wide, the main body has taken on a cream color with areas of brighter bone white, an attractive combination that results in an ivory-like appearance. This particular pipe appears to have never been smoked, with the inside of the bowl showing a bright, near white color and a set of small hand written initials near the rim. Carved from the meerschaum is a three dimensional scene of a tiger hunt. A pair of hunters, mounted on horseback, are dressed in Middle Eastern garb. The man on the left is armed with a percussion rifle, and appears to be serving as a bodyguard or second to the man on the right, who wears a much fancier hat and is wielding a spear, which is capped on the rear end with a small polished piece of ebony. Down below, among the ferns and undergrowth, is their quarry, growling at the spearman's horse. Both horses have a look of surprise and fear, with the spearman's horse rearing up on its hind legs and the rifleman's horse backing away. The spearman has his arm raised, ready to strike, while the rifleman has his weapon down by his side, his attention elsewhere. Smooth underside to the main body, with a scroll pattern at the tip. Detail level is extremely high, with individual straps on the men's footwear and bulging veins and other details on the horses. Fitted with an amber mouthpiece.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with a magnificent aged patina that truly highlights the shadows. Some repairs have been done to the spearman's horse, which shows mended breaks on the legs and few very small chips are visible overall. The mouthpiece is excellent. The pipe is truly outstanding and the carving has stayed sharp in all details.
