Description:

Measuring 14 inches in length and 2 4/5 inches wide, the main body of the pipe is attractively colored, with the underside and lower sections a deep cherry red bordering on black, changing to a rosewood tone, and finally a light brown and yellow at the upper reaches, with the traditional deep black inside the bowl itself. A woodland scene is depicted on the main body, showing the closing moments of a hunt; a mounted shooter has successfully driven a pair of stags to a tall stump, where his partner lies in ambush. From his rearing horse, the driver has drawn a bead on the back of the rear stag's head as it lunges forward, and the front stag, rearing in surprise, is about to take a contact distance shot to the chest from the ambusher. Level of detail is excellent, down to the individual teeth in the horse's mouth and the closed left eye of the ambusher as he lines up his shot. The stem of the pipe is constructed from alternating layers of meerschaum and semi-precious stone, and the mouthpiece is amber.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. Only a few tiny spots are visible on the lower left side of the main body. The stone sections of the stem show a nicely aged mottled brown and darker amber.
