Description:

Measuring 13" in length, 3 3/4" tall and 3 1/5" wide, the main body of the pipe is white in color with light brown highlights overall, showing a darker brown in some of the carved areas. Carved into the pipe is a three dimensional scene of a herder in pursuit of a pair of cattle. Mounted on horseback, the herder has a percussion rifle slung across his back, the reins in his left hand and a lariat in his right, having successfully roped the neck of a bull, which is pulling hard on the line while the horse pulls in the opposite direction. Meanwhile, on the other side of the bowl, a cow hidden from the cowherd by a set of fronds and leafy branches is making good it's escape. The bowl is blended into the scene by being decorated as a tree stump, with a large frond on the front side and a wood bark pattern along the underside of the body. Fitted with an amber mouthpiece, decorated with an octagonal ebony section with orange dot highlights.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pipe has aged beautifully as the lower section a cream color growing to a more aged patina at the top, similar to aged ivory. A small section of lariat is absent immediately behind the bull, with a few tiny chips and age cracks overall. Otherwise a spectacular conditioned pipe. An excellent addition to an advanced pipe collection.
