Established in the 1850s and rising to greater visibility with the 1860 Presidential Campaign, the Wide Awakes were a uniformed militia associated with the Republican Party. In addition to working security for Republican candidates, Wide Awakes engaged is well organized marches to raise attention for the party, and at the outbreak of the war answered Lincoln's call to service, with many joining the Army right out or engaging in paramilitary operations. 35 inches in total length, with a brass collared iron tip, round shaft with orange varnish, 9/10" diameter. On top is a silver band engraved "THE WIDE AWAKES" and a finely carved ivory bust of President Lincoln, 2 9/10" tall and 1 1/2" wide.

Excellent. The tip shows appropriate wear, with some light flaking and handling marks on the shaft, with a thin crack on the rear near the top. Silver shows a dark aged patina in the lower areas. Bust is good, with some mild age cracks.
