Description:

This is a standard WWII German K98 rifle that was adapted to use the short ZF41 extended eye relief rifle scope. These scopes were approximately 1.5 X and were really intended to be used as a shooters aid for the above average marksman throughout the war. The receiver carries the "AR" code for Mauser-Werke, A.G. Borsigwalde Berlin and "41" indicating 1941 as the year of manufacture. The side of the receiver has three single "Eagle 26" Waffenamt proofs with a single Eagle firing proof on the left side of the barrel and receiver. This model has the milled barrel bands and milled trigger guard and floor plate. The stock and handguard are the wartime laminated versions. The matching numbered (4467e) ZF-41 mount carries the single "duv" over Eagle 214 Waffenamt proof indicating manufacture at the Berlin-Lubecker factory. The scope itself is marked ZF 40-41/1 and "dow" for Opticotechna factory in Czechoslovakia and is fitted with a set of stamped metal sunshades. The rifle is compete with a brown unmarked cross-hatched leather sling, a cleaning rod, and a sheet metal front sight cover.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 95% of the wartime finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots overall with the trigger guard and floor plate that has now browned out overall with some thinning and browning on the middle barrel band. The scope and mount both retain 95% of their wartime blued finish overall with clear markings. The optics are in good condition being clouded and a little occluded. The stock and hand guard are both in very good condition showing only minor handling marks overall with faint proofs. The rifle itself has matching numbers. A nice example of an early K98 rifle with a ZF41 scope.
