Description:

This is just a beautiful example of an all original and unaltered Presentation Grade, Factory Engraved Walther Model PP pistol. This is just an impressive example of European engraving using the traditional German oak leaf and acorn engraving with geometric borders. The Walther factory has always been know for having some of the best European engravers, both before and during WWII and this pistol is no exception. The layout of the engraving on the entire pistol and the actual engraving pattern is just exceptional, rivaling any of the American engravers during this time. The Walther deep relief engraving covers virtually all the exposed metal surfaces, with several large engraved panels on the sides of the slide and frame that exhibit the oak leaf and acorn engraving. With portions of the trigger guard bow, the front and portion of the rear grip strap and flats on the frame also exhibiting a very nice delicate geometric designed border pattern, that tastefully blends with and enhances the deep relief oak leaf engraving. The pistol is later pattern that has the 60 degree safety that has also been fully engraved. The entire pistol has been given a deep Walther blued finish and it is fitted with a set of checkered, black plastic, Walther marked grips. The markings on the left side of the slide have all been framed or outlined in an engraved panel with the oak leaf and acorn engraving going right up to the edge of the panels. The markings are; the Walther Banner, the two line factory address/patent markings of "Waffenfabrik Walther, Zella-Mehlis (Thur) /Walther's Patent Cal 7.65mm" followed by "MOD PP". The right side of the frame and slide have the "eagle/N" Nazi commercial proof marks located on the right side of the barrel and directly below that on the slide below the ejection port. The serial number is marked vertically on the right side of the frame (139784P). Although there is no specific inscription or presentation markings, it falls in line with several other documented and fully engraved Walther pistols. There are several pistols of this same and detailed coverage, illustrated and described in "WALTHER VOLUME II- Engraved, Presentation and Standard Models" by James L. Rankin. The pistol is complete with the original blue leather Walther presentation case with a red velvet/satin interior lining. It is complete with one extra Walther marked PP magazine with the black finger extension on the bottom.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the original factory blued finish showing light wear and thinning of the blue finish on the edges and high spots overall and across the face of the some of the engraving from handling and sitting in the case. The case is in exceptional condition with the blue leather exterior showing only a few minor handling marks and scuffs with no rips or tears. The postwar red velvet/satin interior lining is also in excellent condition with no rips or tears showing only minor wear and rubbing in areas where the pistol sat in the case. The spare magazine is also in excellent condition. A very nice example of an all original, factory engraved Walther PP pistol.
