Description:

Designed and introduced in 1937, this style of hewer became the standard officer sidearm for the Reichsarbertsdienst (Reichs Work Service), with the 1934 pattern becoming a NCO sidearm. Blade is 10 1/4" long, with thin single fullers, scimitar-like front clip, Richard Herder (Solingen) makers mark and acid etched "Arbeit Adelt" (Work ennobles) slogan on the right side. Silver finished dual quillion cross guard with "spade and grain" RAD logo on the right, smooth orange grip panels and detailed eagle head pommel. Silver finished sheath, with pebbled center panel bordered by shoots of grain, overlapping scroll at the throat and brown leather belt hanger with pebbled fittings.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with the blade showing a few light spots, polished areas and storage residue, a mixed patina on the guard and hilt, and a few tiny handling marks on the grips. Some light spotting on the sheath, which shows a varied aged patina, and some light wear on the hanger. Possibly postwar, but has many wartime characteristics, so buyer will have to use caution in acquisition as we offer it as a postwar dagger.
