Description:

The Model 1889 was an historically important model in that it was the first Colt manufactured double action revolver with a swing out cylinder. Colt produced approximately 31,000 of these revolvers from 1889 to 1894. This revolver was manufactured in 1891 and is marked "COLT'S PT F.A.MFG.CO. HARTFORD CT.U.S.A. / PATENTED AUG. 5TH 1884 NOVEMBER 6TH 1888." on top of the barrel and "COLT. D.A. 41" on the left side. The circled Rampant Colt is marked on the left rear of the frame. The assembly number "483" is marked on the frame, crane, rear face of the cylinder, cylinder release and on the bottom of the barrel and the serial number is marked on the butt. A small "41" is also marked on the bottom of the barrel directly ahead of the frame. Standard blade front and "U" frame notch rear sights, all nickel finish with fire blue trigger, grip screw and hammer top with polished sides and fitted with smooth pearl grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains approximately 95% of the original nickel finish with some minor flaking on the front strap, left side of the frame and on the right side plate. There are some overall scattered light scratches. Approximately 90% of the original bright niter blue finish remains on the trigger and hammer with loss limited to the upper left of the trigger from cycling the action. The grips are excellent with exception of a minor nick on the upper, rear left panel and light overall handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
