Nineteenth Century Militia Officer's group that includes: (1) waist-length, swallow-tail officers dress blouse with epaulettes, shoulder belt with decorative cartridge box, and saber belt with hangers, (2) 'tar bucket' shako with gilded brass scale chin strap, bullion hat cord and red plume, (3) identified Civil War Infantry Officer's full dress bullion epaulettes with japanned metal case, (4) 19th Century brass bugle with red worsted wool artillery cords, (5) two sets of brass Civil War enlisted shoulder scales, (6) WWII, Model 1916 Holster for Model 1911A1 Pistol and (7) Model 1880 khaki cork helmet with Medical Corp buttons, gold-plated brass spike and eagle and shield insignia. The group includes two boxes for the helmets. The blue, double breasted, dress blouse has eighteen brass buttons on the breast and collar. The buttons have a cast eagle and shield with "STATE FENCIBLES 1813" along the edge. The blouse has white trim on the collar and edges of the tails. The shoulder belt is gold bullion with a scarlet cloth background. The belt has a cast brass eagle had and shield with spread eagle on the front. The faux cartridge box is trimmed with brass and has "OGSF/1813" in brass letters on the cover. The saber belt has a gilt eagle and shield belt plate with the same bullion and scarlet trim as the shoulder belt. The shako has a blue felt body with black, oil-cloth top and brass trimmed, patent leather visor. The Horstmann epaulettes are identified to Captain Louis E. Crone of Roxbury, Massachusetts. Captain Crone enlisted in the 22nd Massachusetts Infantry in 1861 and was wounded at Gaines Mill, Virginia in 1862 He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 42nd U.S. Infantry in December 1862 and was promoted to Captain in 1866. The gold bullion epaulettes have silver bullion Captain's insignia with the regimental number, "42" in gold bullion on a blue wool background. The epaulettes are complete with a japanned metal storage case.

Rating Definition:

Good to very good. The blouse is in good overall condition, all of the buttons are present, the blue and white material is dusty and the bullion trim on the uniform, shoulder belt and cross belt is tarnished. The shako is missing the insignia plate on the front and is in good overall condition with torn liner and sweatband. The 42 Infantry epaulettes are in very good condition wear is limited to some discoloration of the bullion. The bugle and the Model 1916 holster are in very good condition. One set of shoulder scales is in fine condition with light wear. The other set is in fair condition fair condition; one of the scales is heavily discolored. The Model 1880 Helmet is in poor condition. The visor is broken and the front of the helmet is badly stained. This is an interesting post-Civil War Militia Officer's uniform group that could benefit from some additional research.
