Description:

Fraternal military style forage cap manufactured in the 1870-1880s by the Pettibone Mfg. Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. The cap is very similar to the U.S. Army post-Civil War officer's forage cap. The cap has a dark blue wool body with light blue crown and heavy patent leather visor. The cap has a silver cord chinstrap and two silver plated buttons. The buttons have a cast Lilly design and are marked: "K of P/UNIFORM RANK" (Knights of Pythis). The cap crown is embroidered with a silver wire wreath. The crown of the cap has the same lily insignia in silver wire enclosed in a diamond on a crimson background. The letters "IA" (Iowa) are embroidered in silver wire below the insignia. The cap has a brown leather sweat band and red silk liner.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The cap exterior is not faded and has no insect damage. The silver bullion insignia is tarnished but in fine condition. The visor has some age crazing and minor flaking but remains in fine overall condition. This is a fine example on a fraternal military style forage cap.
