Description:

34 3/4 inch single edge double fuller blade, with "U.S./ JH/ 1859" on the right ricasso and "AMES MFG. Co/ CHICOPEE/ MASS." on the left. Silver finished brass two-branch handguard and helmet pommel, with a wire wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard with two suspending rings.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The blade has been cleaned and has scattered pitting and age spotting. The brass guard is in fair condition with tarnish and moderate handling wear. The leather grip cover and twisted wire wrap are original, with some red and green paint visible, and some flaking. Scabbard is fair, with a mixed gray and brown patina, heavy spotting and a deep dent between the suspension bands.
