Description:

32 1/4" bright steel blade with wide single fullers, the Ames scroll marking on the left ricasso and "U.S./ JH/ 1864" on the right. The cast brass hilt has "CSI" stamped on the bottom of quillion, cast ribbed grip section, D-guard and a ball shaped pommel. The ordnance inspector's initials "JH" are stamped on the reverse side of the knuckle bow. The sword has a blued steel scabbard with brass tip, throat and frog stud, stamped "DFH" on the drag.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Mild spotting is visible on the blade, with some light scratches and handling marks. Brass shows an attractive mixed patina and some minor dings. Sheath is fair, with the seam becoming visible, a thin crack in the tip, light dings and a fine brass patina.
