Manufactured during the Civil War from 1863 to 1864. These rifles were used extensively by the union forces. The barrel is retained by three barrel bands and the front sight doubles for a bayonet lug, the rear sight is a folding ladder calibrated to 800 yards. The top of the action is marked "SPENCER REPEATING- / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6 1860."

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel has a mostly brown patina overall with a smooth speckled gray in the middle. The barrel bands and nose cap are a uniform smooth brown. The action is a combination of gray and smooth brown with light to moderate pitting, mostly on the right side. The lock, hammer, lever and buttplate are a textured brown. The stock has been varnished and shows light to moderate handling marks and compression dents with the period applied letters "L B" crudely carved into the right buttstock by the buttplate. Mechanically good.
