Description:

Remington manufactured an estimated 1,900 Beals Army Revolvers during 1861-1862. Due to Civil War use and subsequent attrition, surviving examples of Remington-Beals Army Revolvers are scarce. The revolver has a brass trigger guard and walnut grips. The cylinder lacks the safety notches found on later Remington revolvers. The top of the barrel is marked: "BEALS PATENT SEPT. 14.1858 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTON'S ILION, N.Y." in two lines. The left rear barrel flat and the left side of the frame directly ahead of the cylinder are marked with a military inspectors initial, "P" and "S". The matching serial number is located on the underside of the barrel ahead of the frame and on the left side of the frame under the grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina with the majority having a yellow residue. The cylinder has a number of minor dings and there are a few on the barrel and lug. The trigger guard has a dark aged patina. The grips are good with scattered minor nicks, dents and dings, and a hand rubbed finish. The barrel marking is readable. The action is fine.
