Description:

The barrel with its patent breech and solid under rib is marked "N. LEWIS< MAKER, TROY, N.Y." and features a dovetailed silver blade front sight and a simple "V" notched rear with a folding peep sight mounted on the barrel tang. The stock exhibits outstanding crotch grain figure with an oval cheekpiece, and beaver tail moldings at the lock panels. The mounts are all iron including ramrod pipes, nose cap, barrel key escutcheons, side plate trigger plate and guard, toe plate, fancy cap box and crescent buttplate. The lock is marked "N. LEWIS, MAKER, / TROY, N.Y."

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel shows thinning brown with slight high edge wear. Most of the iron mounts show traces of original case color in protected areas with the balance a silver gray with light mottled brown. The fine stock shows much of the period finish. Mechanically fine.
