Description:

This is an example of an early Model 1909 Mauser rifle as manufactured under commercial contract by DWM for the country of Argentina, that was produced as a low turret sniper rifle. These early sniper rifles were all supplied with Zeiss scopes using low turret mounts. The left side of the receiver ring is marked "MAUSER MODELO / ARGENTINO 1909" and the receiver sidewall is marked "DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND / MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN". The top of the receiver is fitted with a set of low turret scope bases that has been fitted with a early production Zeiss scope. The top of the scope tube is marked with; "ZIELVIER" over "Nr.5280", over the factory logo of "CARL ZEISS, JENA". The rifle has he correct turned down bolt handle to clear the scope and it is fitted with the military style tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 meters with an inverted "V" front. It has the correct milled barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate. The stock and handguard are the correct European walnut versions with the flat buttplate with the Argentinean factory proof/cartouche on the rifle side of the buttstock and inside the pistol grip area.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall showing 95% original blue finish thinning somewhat on the exposed barrel with solid blue on the barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate. The receiver and bolt show their original factory bright polish/finish. The scope and rings show 99% of the arsenal refurbished blue finish as the scope tube has light pitting overall and the optics are clear and the elevation knob works correctly. The scope bases are original to the rifle with the front one showing some slight cleaning of the blue finish. But the rings bases and scope all appear to be the correct type for the rifle. The stock and handguards are all correct and matching to the rifle and both are in very good to excellent condition showing minimal handing marks with two large dings or gouges one on the left side of the butt stock and the underside of the forend. The rifle has matching numbers on the various components and the scope rings are unnumbered. A very nice example of a early Argentinean sniper rifle.
