Description:

Operating from 1892 to 1955, H.C. Evans was a major producer of sporting goods, fairground games and gambling equipment, infamous for its "Secret Blue Book", a compendium of cheating devices including weighted dice, marked cards and electromagnetic tables. Total height is 35 1/2" tall, with a 20 1/4" diameter wood wheel, painted red on the rear face, black on the edge and gold on the front border, with the front outfitted with a glass covered, nickeled metal reinforced scene of racehorses on a track, identical save for the red or green striped jockey clothing, numbers near the center in sparkled fields, and makers mark around the sun shaped axle. 24 pegs are secured to the outside, and eight horses, with names like Occupy, Celtic and Latent, are shown. A geared shaft arrangement connects the wheel to the oval box on top, which can rotate to display a number between 2 and 8 (half the numbers are 2).

Rating Definition:

Good. The number drum can be turned manually, but is not turned by the shaft. Some light flaking and handling marks are present. Horses are touched up.
