Description:

Produced by the Toledo Scale Company. Founded in 1901, Toledo developed the pendulum based scale to compete with the spring-powered scales of the era, which would lose their calibration from use and temperature variations. The company remains in operation today as Mettler Toledo International. Measuring 29" tall, 19" long and 17" wide, the front side of the scale bears a small window onto the drum, which shows the measured weight in pounds, while the backside (towards the clerk) shows poundage and a multiplication table going from 10 through 80 in one cent graduations, automatically calculating the price of the commodity weighed. Painted a deep gold speckled green with lighter green accents and brass fittings, the counterweight and the front of the drum are marked "TOLEDO" in red shadowed gold fancy letters, a brass plate on the support for the glass tray is marked with the patent information, serial and style numbers. A pair of thick glass windows reveal the inner workings, the ends of the drum are capped with similar glass, and the weight indicator on the front is flanked by the company logo "NO SPRINGS HONEST WEIGHT".

Rating Definition:

Very good, with some light wear and flaking of the paint. Mechanically fine, but in need of adjustment.
