Manufactured between 1897 and 1917. Dovetail front sight (missing bead) and sporting rear sight on a barrel marked with the two line address/patent dates. Receiver is drilled and tapped for mounting. "MARLIN / MODEL '97" is marked on the upper tang. Plain forearm and straight grip stock with Marlin buttplate.

Very fine, with 95% original blue finish, showing the beginnings of a brown patina, gray patina forming on the high edges and some minor spotting. 65% original case color, with the remainder faded to a gray patina. Stock fine, with a scratch on the comb and minor handling marks.
