Description:

This is Pierre le Faguay's (French Late 19th/ Early 20th Century) bronze statue of an Amazon warrior. The woman stands on one leg with her left leg parallel with her outstretched right arm holding a sword. Her left arm, with shield, is also stretched outward. The stance indicates a charging woman. Is signed by the artist. The bronze is attached to a marble plinth (8 3/4" long, 3 1/4" wide and 2 3/4" tall). Statue is 19" long and 18" tall. Le Faguay was born in Nantes, France and became famous for the originality and grace he gave his dancers, many of which were inspired by the statues of Tanagra. He was awarded a medal of honor for his work in 1927. His best friend, Max Le Verrier (of the Le Verrier Foundry) made most of (if not all of) his pieces.

Rating Definition:

Near fine. There are some light handling marks and some minor pitting. Overall retaining a pleasant smooth bronze patina.
