Manufactured from 1859 to 1866, this carbine is fitted with a sling bar, ring, Lawrence folding rear sight graduated to 800 yards, a Lawrence pellet primer and a desirable patch box. No visible inspection marks or cartouches are present on the stock. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "NEW MODEL 1859" between the rear sight and the receiver, the three-line Sharps address is stamped on the barrel between the barrel band and the rear sight. The rear sight base and receiver have the standard Sharps and R.S. Lawrence patent markings. The serial number is stamped on the top of the receiver tang. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with iron buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 60% faded original blue finish with wear on the muzzle and a small area of pitting on the lower left side ahead of the forearm. The lever has a smooth brown patina and the sling bar and ring have a smooth gray patina. The hammer has a mottled smooth grayish patina with 25% of the original casehardening pattern remaining. The receiver, lock and sling bar base show much of the original dulling case colors mixed with smooth mottled brown patina. The wood has been revarnished (some time ago) and remains fine with a few overall minor dents and dings. The markings remain crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
