Description:

This is a very rare example of a late 1880's Indian Reservation rifle. The left side of the buttstock is marked "U.S./ COL. TER" (U.S. Colorado Territories). The rifle is an early Civil War 1860 Army rifle that is marked "SPENCER REPEATING/ RIFLE CO BOSTON, MASS./ PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860" on top of the receiver. Blade front sight that doubles as a bayonet lug and a folding ladder rear sight graduated from 2 to 8. The rifle is fitted with a factory single set trigger. The stock and forearm are walnut. The forearm has an end cap and the stock is the standard military configuration. These are rarely seen as they saw very hard use. The real deal!

Rating Definition:

Good. The rifle has a smooth cleaned bright patina with some minor pitting (more extensive on the right side of the receiver). There is a minor crack on the left side of the wrist and a couple slivers missing from the forearm, otherwise the wood is good with some minor gouges, dings and scratches. The buttstock marking is clear and crisp. Mechanically fine.
