Description:

Taken on June 9, 1928, a black and white photograph of two gentlemen on a bench. According to the penciled note on the back, the man on the left is Samuel Gibson, who participated in the Wagon Box Fight in Wyoming, 1867, and the man on the right is Ed Butts, who was at Fort Laramie when news arrived of the Fetterman Massacre. The medal is a Women's Relief Corp bronze Maltese Cross dated 1883 with a red, white, and blue ribbon suspended from a "CFL" monogrammed bronze bar, with the reverse marked "PATENTED/MAY 4, AND/SEPT. 28, 1886".

Rating Definition:

The medal is very good, with some soiling of the ribbon and a fine color overall. The photograph is excellent, with some mild fading along the edges, minor spots, and a sharp image overall.
