This is an excellent example of a completely unaltered Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle. It has the 1884 Buffington rear sight, adjustable for windage and elevation and a fixed blade front sight. The lock plate is marked in front of the hammer with the American Eagle next to "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" and the top of the buttplate is also marked "US". The rifle has a two-piece trigger guard with the serrated trigger, three click tumbler, and solid buttplate. The oil finished walnut stock is marked on the left side opposite the lock plate with a boxed single "SWP 1889" cartouche, a small "D" sub-inspectors and script circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area behind the lower tang. Complete with a blue U.S. marked 1873 socket bayonet and original ramrod with swollen shaft and slotted button tip.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 97% original blue finish on the barrel with some minor wear on the muzzle and some scattered minor spotting. The lock, trigger guard and hammer retain most of the slightly duller original finish. The breechblock retains 99% of the original case colors with some light fading, otherwise vivid. The stock is excellent with only a few overall scattered minor scuffs and storage dings, with a crisp cartouche. The stacking and front sling swivels are slightly bent. The markings are clear and crisp. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet retains 95% plus original blue finish with some scattered minor surface rust overall. Overall a very fine to excellent example of a late production U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle.
