Description:

This is a nice example of an early production 1896 commercial contract small ring hammer variation Broomhandle Mauser pistol that is complete with the original matching serialized wooden shoulder stock/holster. This pistol has the wartime blued finish with the heat blued small parts. The top of the barrel chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER / OBERNDORF A/N" and the left side is marked with the serial number and a crown over "crown / U" proofmark, the right side with the antler (Ulm) proof and the bottom of the barrel has three gothic letters. The crown "crown / U" proof is repeated on the top of the bolt handle. The right side rear frame is marked " WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER / OBERNDORF A. NECKAR". The matching serial number is marked on the lock frame and backstrap and the partial number on the top of the bolt handle, rear sight blade, bolt stop and back of the hammer. It is equipped with the standard fixed inverted "v" front sight, adjustable rear sight graduated from 50 to 1000 meters with the early style hammer without the later "NS" markings. All blue finish with niter blue on the small components and fitted with two piece factory Gutta Percha grips carved with floral deigns and a Cherub with a Broomhandle in one hand and a knife in the other attacking a lion. The inside of each grip panel is numbered to the gun. Complete with the original wooden shoulder stock/holster numbered to the gun.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The pistol retains 90% plus slightly faded original blue finish with some high edge wear and thinning on the magazine sides. There is some minor spotting on the barrel and a little heavier spotting on the left side of the magazine. Most of the fire blue remains on the safety and rear sight components and about 50% on the bolt stop. The grips are excellent showing very little wear. The markings are clear. The mechanics are fine. The stock is fine and shows a number of light scratches and a few minor dings and dents, and dark patina on the hardware. Mechanically excellent.
