This is an example of a early antique Model 1896 commercial Broomhandle Mauser pistol that is complete with the original matching combination wooden shoulder stock/holster. This pistol has a bright blue finish with the heat blued small parts and 23 groove grip panels. The top of the barrel chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER / OBERNDORF A/N", the left side of the chamber area is marked with a Crown over Crown "U" proof and the right side is marked with the Oberndorf antler proof. The underside of the barrel is marked with a gothic letter and Oberndorf antler proofs. It is fitted with the standard fixed inverted front sight, adjustable rear sight graduated from 50 to 1000 meters with the early style cone hammer without the later "NS" markings. The frame has the early milled recessed panels, early type long slender extractor, early rear sight retainer pin and broad early type trigger that's pinned to a block locked into the receiver. Matching numbers including the inside of each grip panel. Complete with a matching wooden shoulder stock/holster with the matching serial number marked on the upper portion of the lid hinge.

Very fine as partially refinished. The pistol retains approximately 95% of the finish with some edge wear, thinning on the grip straps and a few small areas of flaking and spotting on the barrel. The right side of the barrel extension below the rear sight is marked "U26681" with electro pencil. There is a refinished area on the left rear of the barrel extension and left rear of the frame that has some minor pitting visible under the finish. The trigger is a smooth silver gray and the small parts retain most of the bright fire blue finish. The grips are fine with a small chip and pressure dent on the left panel, and overall a few minor dings. The stock is very fine. There is some pin prick type pitting on the fine attaching iron, otherwise overall the wood shows minor scattered dings and dents.
