Also known as the John Brown Model, this Maynard primed belt revolver was manufactured from 1851 to 1857 with about 1000 produced. The 31 caliber, 6 shot manual rotating cylinder has been floral and military etched, with the broad scroll design engraved on the lock, frame and hammer. Blue finish with casehardened frame and silver plated brass grip straps and trigger guard. The top strap is marked "MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS" and "MAYNARD'S PATENT SEP. 22, 1845" with eagle/shield motif on door of the Maynard primer. "40" on the frame with "991" on the fixed cylinder pin. Fixed sights and a smooth one piece grip. Complete with a partitioned deluxe Rosewood presentation wooden case with German silver hinges, a brass shield inlay on the lid and lined in teal velvet. Included are the following accessories: Massachusetts Arms powder flask, key, Winchester Hicks' percussion cap tin with caps, cleaning rod, Massachusetts double conical bullet mold and lead rounds.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and cylinder retain traces of the original blue finish (strongest on the barrel) with the balance a smooth gray patina. The cylinder has some minor pitting and spotting, with half of the original etching remaining. The frame has a smooth gray patina, with a darker patina on the lock and hammer. The brass retains approximately 40% original silver plating with most of the loss on the backstrap and butt. The exposed brass has a fine aged patina. The grip is fine with some minor dings and scratches. The case is fine with some minor handling marks and a few chips, with the lining showing some scattered minor wear. The accessories are very good.
