Manufactured circa late 1860s, this XL Number 4 revolver features floral design engraving on the barrel sides front of the frame and on the cylinder flats. The rear sides of the frame have a broad scroll and punch dot design and a double wire pattern on the backstrap. The top strap is marked HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG. CO. / XL No 4 / PAT. MAR. 23, 1871" with a scallop border. Blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with smooth two piece ivory grips with "DE" monogram on the upper left panel.

Very good. The cylinder retain 70% original finish with an area of moderate pitting on half of one of the flats. The remaining metal surfaces have a gray patina with overall minor pitting. The grips are fine with a few minor nicks on the bottoms, a few small hairline age cracks around the grip screw and a pleasant aged patina and grain. The action needs work. The engraving and marking are clear.
