Manufactured circa mid-1860s, this is an example of a First Model with the distinctive cylinder pin release button on the left side of frame. About 1000 of the First Model were produced. Without the New York address, which is common. Broad scroll engraved frame and smooth grips. Matching serial number on frame, loading lever and barrel.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The refinished barrel and cylinder are now a smooth dark patina. The frame has a smooth dark brown patina with a gray patina on the grip straps. The loading lever retains some flashes of case colors mixed with a smooth gray patina. Overall there is scattered minor pitting, with the engraving remaining clear. The grips are good with a chipped toe and some minor dings and scratches (mostly on the left panel).

Fine. The barrel retains 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina with some scattered minor spotting. The frame has a smooth brown-gray patina with a darker patina on the cylinder with a strong drag line. There is some minor pitting on the cylinder and frame. The grips are fine with the exception of a couple absent chips on the bottom edge and some mild dings and scratches. Most of the varnish remains.
