A) Scarce Bacon Navy Model Revolver

Description:

This revolver is a First Type, manufactured in the early 1860s with about 400 produced. The cylinder must be removed for loading by withdrawing the jointed/hinged lever under the barrel which acts both a center pin and ejector rod. The frame has a broad scroll engraving. The top barrel flat is marked "BACON MFG CO NORWICH CONN". Fitted with smooth two piece grips.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The revolver has a smooth bright gray patina. Overall there is minor pitting with limited deep pitting on the frame. The slightly undersized refinished grips are fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches.

Description:

Iron frame with push button barrel release. Front blade sight, rear sight is a notch in the top strap, marked " L.W. POND WORCESTER MASS. PAT'D JULY 10 1860." on top of barrel and " MANUF'D FOR SMITH & WESSON PAT'D APRIL 3 1855." on the upper left barrel flat. Visible serial numbers matching (including right grip panel), with the back of the left grip panel marked "646 / JEK". Complete with screwdriver.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The barrel retains traces of original blue finish near the muzzle and breech with the balance between a smooth gray and brown patina. The cylinder retains some scattered traces of blue with the balance a smooth brown patina with a strong drag line. The frame retains 20% blue with the balance a smooth gray patina. The grips are very fine with some minor dings and scratches, with most of the varnish remaining.
