Description:

The brass cannon measurers approximately 17 inches from muzzle to fixed cascable, with the muzzle diameter measuring 7/8 inches. The cannon is unmarked. There is no touch hole, but there is a deep cavity. The carriage is wood with iron mounts and measures 21 1/2 inches long and has 13 1/4" diameter wood wheels. There is contemporary phillips head screw, which the cannon rests on when mounted to the carriage. Consignor states that this is a French salesman sample cannon used as a model cannon that the Continental Army could buy during the American War of Independence.

Rating Definition:

Good. The cannon has a dark aged patina, with some minor handling marks. The carriage has some absent chips in the wood, with broken mounts having oxidation and loose joints. The finish is crazing and the pins to secure the wheels to the carriage are missing.
