Manufactured by Brownhill of Sheffield, England. The blade is 9" and marked "H I J / BROWNHILL / SHEFFIELD". The blade is also etched with a scroll pattern surrounding "CALIFORNIA KNIFE" on the left side. Sheffield cutlery firms responded to the California Gold Rush by unleashing bowie knives etched with gold rush themes such as this example. Silver diamond shaped guard. Fitted with stag scales secured with six rivets and a silver plate on the left scale. OAL: 13". Complete with a leather sheath with gold accents and a silver tip and throat with carrying stud.

Very good. The blade cleaned long ago now a stainless steel mottled look with a few missing tiny chips, and some minor pitting. The etching remains clear. The scales have a few minor handling marks. The sheath has minor scuffs/flaking and a minor tear, with some minor dings on the fittings. A very nice California Gold Rush knife seldom seen.
