Manufactured circa 1835, this bowie knife features a 7" spear point blade with "GEO. WOSTENHOLM / I*XL" marked on both sides of the ricasso. It has an early coffin silver hilt with ivory scales secured with four rivets. Three silver inlays adorn one of the scales. OAL: 11". Complete with an original leather sheath with silver throat and tip. The leather is marked "I*XL". George Wostenholm of Sheffield, England, made the knives of American settlers and pioneers, and is celebrated for his I·XL cutlery.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Blade has been polished with machine marks and some minor pitting. The hilt has numerous minor dings with some minor handling marks on the scales. The ivory has a nice grain pattern with an attractive aged color. The sheath is good with some separation and minor flaking on the leather. The tip and throat have some minor dings, with a carrying attachment missing from the throat.
