Description:

Manufactured from 1870 to 1882 with about 3,100 made in the serial number range of 6570 to 17900. This revolver is a very scarce early variation made with the sliding safety mounted on the bottom of the frame and the trap door in the butt secured by a screw. This trapdoor allowed access to the mainspring for adjustment. The serial number on this revolver would indicate that it is a very early production. The left side of the top strap is marked "MY FRIEND PATD. DEC. 26, 1865". The serial number is marked on the butt and the cylinder pin is marked "86". The brass frame has broad leaf scroll engraving with a punch dot background, with simple patterns on the top strap and a checkered shield and oval on the back of the grip. Blue cylinder and hammer, and silver plated brass frame.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period refinished, the cylinder, which retains most of the dark blue over some minor pitting and dings under the finish. The frame retains 70% of the replated silver with the exposed areas having a natural, untouched aged patina. There are a number of small dings on the butt of the frame. The cylinder has to be occasionally manually locked after cocking, otherwise the action is fine. The engraving and markings remain crisp and clear.
