Description:

This is an example of a very desirable Colt Model 1855 Deluxe full stock revolving Rifle manufactured from 1856 to 1864 that was subsequently converted to cartridge. This particular rifle was manufactured very early and has the 1st Model two spur casehardened trigger guard. It is equipped with the Root-type side hammer, six-shot fluted cylinder, ratchet-type loading lever and three-leaf rear sight with graduations for 100, 200 and 300 yards. The iron buttplate is a replacement numbered "1472" on the toe. There are no visible markings on the rifle except for the serial number "101" on the lower tang and bottom of the frame. The front sight doubles as a bayonet lug. Mounted with a full forearm secured by two barrel bands with a sling swivel on the rear band, brass forend cap and iron ramrod. The buttstock has multi point checkering on the wrist, high comb and a sling swivel mounted on the lower tang.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as period refinished at time of cartridge conversion with much of the blue finish remaining. There are a few small areas of minor pitting and dings under the finish. The trigger guard and loading lever have a smooth grayish/brown patina with some hints of case colors in protected areas. The forearm has been refurbished to near new condition with only a few minor handling marks. The stock is also very fine with a few minor age cracks, minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The action is excellent.
